across the globe increasing reach by 450%
Hostworks, Australia’s leading solutions provider to the online and digital media industry, has teamed up with Little Athletics Australia and IMG Sports Technology Group to live broadcast the 2014 Australian Little Athletics Championships (ALAC) using its newly launched Media Foundry.
The Hostworks Media Foundry is a suite of services that serves anyone in the business of managing and distributing live and on-demand content. With broadcast being in Hostworks’ DNA, they developed this end-to-end media delivery solution that lets you focus on your media business instead of managing the technology of video platforms, encoding services, applications, devices and a content distribution network.
IMG Sports Technology Group, which leads in membership management systems, events and e-commerce and Hostworks got together on May 3rd to bring eight hours of Little Athletics events and ceremonies to a global audience through the Little Athletics Australia homepage in high quality and high definition format. This milestone moment takes the 50-year old sporting organisation to a global stage. To help build excitement, sporting heroes including track athletes Brendan Cole and Alex Rowe were also on hand to provide commentary throughout the events.
“We decided we wanted to launch our Media Foundry solution by working with Little Athletics as they very much remind us of ourselves. We too are an Aussie based organisation which might be considered small but the bigger our clients’ hurdles, the higher we can jump,” said Will Berryman, CEO, Hostworks.
Little Athletics is a uniquely Australian modified junior athletics programs, with over 100,000 members participating at over 500 centres across the country. An Australian institution, this volunteer-driven organisation brings kids, families and communities together by promoting the message of being your best. Viewership of the event increased by 450% as family and friends that couldn’t attend the event were able to cheer on their little champions either live or at a later time through the Media Foundry’s on-demand format.
To ensure a seamless live feed, a production crew of four cameramen, one producer, one editor and four technicians were onsite to assist with production that was hosted through the Media Foundry platform. The footage was shot in a similar format to traditional broadcast and was also viewable on any mobile device with an Internet connection.
“While the champions on the day were the athletes, the team at Hostworks also trained hard to provide a seamless live stream as well as creating the on-demand service. We are delighted to have helped over 4,500 family and friends view the action from afar and provide the footage so even more can share now that the event is over. Who knows, we could have captured the first footage of Australia’s next Olympic champion!” concluded Berryman.
“Little Athletics Australia was delighted to have the opportunity to live stream our Asics Australian Little Athletics Championships for the first time in the event’s 43 year history,” said Martin Stillman, Chief Executive, Little Athletics Australia. “We are currently celebrating 50 years of Little Athletics in Australia, and we were so pleased to share this significant occasion and event with viewers right across the country and world. Our sincerest thanks must go to Hostworks and IMG Sports Technology Group who made this possible, and we look forward to being able to provide this exciting initiative in years to come.”
“IMG Sports Technology Group were thrilled to facilitate the first live streaming of the Australian Little Athletics Championship in conjunction with Hostworks and Little Athletics,” said Glen McGoldrick, CEO, IMG Sports Technology Group. “This is a terrific initiative which further strengthens our already excellent relationship with Little Athletics Australia. We look forward to working on more live streaming events in the future.”
