Technology partner Hostworks’ to deliver live stream of the race globally
ADELAIDE, 21 January 2015 – This week, the Santos Tour Down Under kicks off the 2015 international pro cycling circuit, in style. The biggest cycling race in the southern hemisphere brings global competitors and crowds of fans and supporters to Adelaide and regional South Australia.
Digital media solutions company Hostworks, coined the ‘digital roadies’, is privileged to participate this year as a corporate sponsor for the Tour Down Under. In conjunction to being the principle technology partner, Hostworks is also delighted to be providing the inaugural live stream functionality to the official TDU app, for the entire duration of the Tour.

Being digital roadies means, Hostworks are proudly working behind the scenes with this years Tour Down Under and other local SA businesses like Santos and Tourism SA to take the event to the next level of engagement and make sure cycling fans can catch all the action, in real-time wherever they are.

The race showcases the best cycling talent from across the globe, and presents them against a background of iconic South Australian landmarks. It is exciting to have local business Hostworks sponsor Stage One of the race, and by coming on board to host the live stream of the event via Subaru Tour Tracker, the Tour will be able to reach more fans than ever before.”
Hostworks will deliver a video broadcast and a live stream of the race via the Tour Down Under app on both iOS and Android devices through its customisable digital solutions platform, Media Foundry.
“Fans from around the world can have access to the broadcast of the first race of the 2015 cycling season. The versatility of our Media Foundry platform allows cyclists and cycling fans to watch each stage of the Tour Down Under anywhere, anytime, and on any mobile device,” Berryman said.
The 2015 Tour Down Under follows a record breaking 2014 race where nearly 800,000 spectators packed the streets of South Australia to get a view of the action. Last year the Tour generated over $45 million to the South Australian economy and showcased 26 hours of footage via free to air television channels.
Hostworks first live stream for the Tour, on Sunday 18 January, resulted in approximately 800 concurrent streams, with 500 unique users watching for an average time of 20 minutes.
Hostworks are capturing the stream via a satellite downlink and encoding and segmenting on the fly to deliver the stream in multiple bitrates via the Hostworks Content Delivery Network. The Content Delivery Network distributes content via geographically dispersed nodes located around Australia and New Zealand. The stream of the Tour Down Under will be delivered in multiple bitrates to support a great end user experience with changing network conditions.
