03 Aug South Australia, get ready for disruption!
When the SA Premier came for a visit
Over the next five years, two-thirds of South Australian (SA) businesses will encounter significant changes to their operations as a result of digital disruption. This is the future as predicted in a recent report by the South Australian Government and Deloitte, ‘South Australia: Digital Disruption, Digital Opportunities’.
While the state government and local businesses are exploring what the digital revolution means to them, it was no surprise the Premier of South Australia, Jay Weatherhill, and the Minister for Tourism, Leon Bignell, found themselves in the middle of Hostworks’ centre of operations in Adelaide.
And we were more than delighted to host the Premier, Minister and their advisors at Hostworks headquarters.
During the tour, it was clear how impressed and pleasantly surprised the Premier was about the size and maturity of the Hostworks operation, the scale of clients serviced from the facility as well as by the innovative research and analytics emerging from South Australia.
While the Premier’s office is already exploring the possibilities of digital, from predictive analytics uncovering local or national data trends to geomapping, it does not end there.
If South Australia can fully harness the power of digital innovation as a state, significant economic benefits will follow as a result. However, everyone needs to contribute.
As the SA Government and Deloitte report outlines, it’s vital for government to develop a response, with policy that drives positive change for businesses. Industry forums and groups must also consider how they can support their members, and every business needs to find their own way of harnessing disruption.
The Premier’s visit is only one step towards this vision, and a closer relationship between the state’s technology leaders and the government will hopefully make a digitally savvy SA a reality.
Could South Australia emerge as the new Silicon Valley, Down Under? Only time will tell, but we at Hostworks are feeling pretty confident!
